Door Dampening

As Celica owners are already aware, the doors are bloody heavy by Japanese standard.  Still think that door dampening is a must, I’ve decided to proceed. Had great success with Dynamat Xtreme in my previous ride, but I am experimenting with a cheap alternative at 20% the cost of DX.

I found Hunter Tape at a local contractor’s hardware store meant for roof/gutters. Upon examining the material, it appears as something worth trying.

Good that the back of the Celica door panel came padded, which is not the case for all Japanese make.

Unlike the usual Japanese car where you see a thin layer of clear plastic, the one found in stock Celica is quite good by stock standard, with a thin layer of foam/sponge sheet laid on the clear plastic. Too bad, still not good enough for ICE'er...so off to the garbage dump....

Heat gun is optional in this case, but a roller will be a must to ensure an even and good application. In the absence of a roller, a table spoon is just as good, especially pressing down confined contours.

MDF ring cut and ready for use. Will be nicer to spray it black.

Proper terminals and termination is important. It's difficult to find gold plated terminals like this, which explains why I got them from Super Autobacs in Tokyo Bay.

Mid-range driver mounted and ready to PUMP! Excess length of speaker cables required behind to allow for window glass to retract. Otherwise, the speaker cable can be dislodged from the mid-range connector.

Still going Xtreme, I actually did 3 layers on each door.
